Cost of IELTS Registration in Nigeria

The cost of registering for IELTS varies according to the versions of the test you are taking. The IELTS versions and the respective costs of registration are given below:

  1. IELTS computer delivered and Paper based (Academic and General Training) has a fee of N 79,000
  2. IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration (Academic and General Training) has a fee of N 85,000
  3. IELTS Life Skills (A1 and B1) has a fee of N 76,000 

Do I Need To Register Now for IELTS Or Get Some Training First? 

It depends on the time you are willing to submit your application to your choice school or immigrate to the country of your choice. However, it is better you apply as early as possible. Structure and Timing of The IELTS Test 

The IELTS test is composed of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The table below clearly shows the question types and time.

Minimum time required for IELTS preparation

You will need to prepare for at least one month or three weeks. However, the stipulated time is at best indicative as you may require more or less time. It depends entirely on factors such as your usage of English language in daily conversation, length of prior training, etc

Acceptability of IELTS For Admission Into Schools Abroad

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test is used to assess your English language proficiency when you apply to be admitted into schools abroad.

It has a clear advantage as universities and colleges abroad use your IELTS score to measure how ready you are to succeed in your choice program of study. This is the reason IELTS is accepted in over 10,000 universities and different establishments in more than 140 countries.  These include the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and across Europe and Asia.

IELTS Score Range

The total obtainable score for IELTS is 9 points. The IELTS test is composed of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The maximum score for each section is 9, and it also has a cumulative 9 points.

Acceptable IELTS Score For Admission

Which IELTS score is acceptable for admission is relative. Each school sets the minimum IELTS score that is acceptable, and it typically differs according to programs. However, on the average, the minimum acceptable score is 6 for admission purposes. 

Please, bear in mind that you will need to score in the range of 8 and above to secure admission into top schools. These include Stanford University, Cornell University, Harvard University, London Business School, Imperial College of London, University of California Berkeley, to mention just a few.

Test Seat Availability For IELTS in Nigeria

The IELTS test is administered throughout the entire year at few approved test centres across Nigeria, giving you little options. It is offered more than 60 times a year at authorized test centers around the world. However timing is important, as seats get filled up quickly. So students are urged to register early to get their desired test dates and location.

There are 11 official IELTS test locations across Nigeria. You can decide to take your IELTS test on paper or on a computer. Whichever you like, you will need to go to a test centre to write your test.

Rescheduling IELTS Test Registration in Nigeria

You cannot reschedule your IELTS registration five days before your test date, if you do you will forfeit the fee you paid. So try to reschedule at least two weeks before your test. 

 

Preparation For IELTS Test

Here are some tips that can help you with your test preparation:

  1. At least, one month of good preparation is suggested for the IELTS test.
  2. Pick a test date that is at least 2 months before your earliest application deadline.

Identification (ID) Requirements for the IELTS Test

When you register for your IELTS test in Nigeria, you’re required to enter your ID information. The details of your registration must match exactly with those on the ID you are bringing to the test place. If the details don’t match, you will not take the test, and your test fee will not be refunded.  

 

Acceptable ID For IELTS Test in Nigeria

Test takers in Nigeria will need an international passport as an identifying document upon their arrival at the test centre. 

Unacceptable ID Documents For IELTS Test

These documents are not acceptable as primary or supplemental ID under any condition:

  1. International driver’s license
  2. Draft classification card
  3. International student ID
  4. Credit/debit card of any sort
  5. Notary-prepared letter or document
  6. Birth certificate
  7. Social Security card
  8. Employee ID card
  9. Any temporary ID card
  10. Diplomatic, consulate or embassy ID card

 

Note: If your ID document isn’t written in English language and the test centre administrator can’t read it, you will most likely be unable to take the test, and your test fee won’t be refunded. 

IELTS Test Takers 15 Years old or Younger

If you are 15 years old or younger you cannot take the test, But if you are 16 years and above, you have to be accompanied by your parents or other authorized grown-up aged 18 or more. He or she will be required to complete and sign a release form at the test venue.

Both you (the test taker) and your parent or any authorized individual, who accompanies you, needs to provide valid, acceptable ID, or you won’t take the test.

IELTS Test Duration

The IELTS test spans 2 hours 45 minutes; the check-in process may take 30 minutes. So, you should expect to spend close to 4 hours and are encouraged to plan your test day appropriately. You should not fix any other serious engagement for the day.

 

What To Bring To Your IELTS Test Centre

When your online registration is completed, you’ll get a confirmation email with the test date, start time and test centre address. Please print the email confirmation for your registration. You will take the printed email confirmation and your unexpired international passport to the test centre.

How To Confirm IELTS Registration Status

You can confirm your registration status by login to your British Council account with your login details. If you don’t know your login details, simply ask for it from us or the agent that registered you for the exam.

Also, plan to check the status of your registration the day before your test to ensure that none of the registration details has changed (for instance, a different start time or venue than initially scheduled).
