Do I Need To Register Now for SAT Or Get Some Training First? 

It depends on the time you want to submit your application to your chosen university because it’s an exam you need to write before the start of a new school year. So, it is advisable you register as early as possible. This is because available scholarships are released on a first come first served basis. So, you should register first for the exam and adequately prepare and train. From our experience, registering first for the exams serves as a source of motivation for our students to brace up and work hard as they look forward to their SAT test dates

Structure and Timing of The SAT Test 

The SAT test is composed of three sections: Evidence-based Reading, Writing and Math. The table below clearly shows the  question types, time and number of questions.

Minimum time required for SAT preparation

You will need to prepare for at least a month or three weeks. However, the stipulated time depends on your usage of English language in daily conversation, length of prior training, problem solving skills etc

So you may require more or less time to prepare.

Acceptability of SAT For Admission Into Schools Abroad

The SAT test measures a high school or secondary student’s readiness for university, and provides universities with a common data point that can be used to compare all applicants when you apply to be admitted into schools abroad.

It has a distinct advantage as universities and colleges abroad use your SAT score to measure how ready you are to succeed in your choice program of study. This is the reason SAT is accepted in over 1,000 universities and different establishments in the US and Canada.

SAT Score Range

The total obtainable score for SAT is 1600. The SAT test is composed of three sections: Evidence-based Reading, Writing and Math. The maximum score for each section is 800.

Acceptable SAT Score For Admission

Which SAT score is acceptable for admission is relative. Each school sets the minimum SAT score that is acceptable, and it typically differs according to programs. However, on the average, the minimum acceptable score is 800 for undergraduate studies. 

Please, bear in mind that you will need to score in the range of 1300 and above to secure admission into top schools. These include Stanford University, Cornell University, Harvard University, London Business School, Imperial College of London, University of California Berkeley, to mention just a few.

Other Uses of SAT Test

Apart from using SAT scores to secure admission into various universities abroad, it has no other function or usage. 

Test Seat Availability For SAT in Nigeria

The SAT test is administered 5 times in the entire year at few approved test centres across Nigeria, giving you little options. It is offered in the months of March, May, August, October, and December at authorized test centers around the world. However timing is important, as seats get filled up quickly. So students are urged to register early to get their desired test dates and location.

SAT can be taken in Nigeria in the following locations: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Aba, Enugu, Anambra, Jos, Abia, Benin, Kaduna, Osun, and Kwara. Other locations may be approved over time. See the available SAT centres and test dates to pick a test date that is most favourable to you.

Rescheduling SAT Test Registration in Nigeria

You can reschedule your SAT registration any time as  there is no deadline for rescheduling SAT test dates. You have the option of rescheduling even after your original test date has passed (that is if you didn’t show up for the test), and you only have to pay the $28 reschedule fee and you are good to go.


Preparation For SAT Test

Here are some tips that can help you with your test preparation:

  1. At least, one month of good preparation is suggested for the SAT test.
  2. Pick a test date that is at least 2 months before your earliest application deadline.
  3. Practise! Practise!! Practise!!! There are more than enough free study materials that are available for your practice. Read and practice thoroughly.

Identification (ID) Requirements for the SAT Test

When you register for your SAT test in Nigeria, you’re required to enter your ID information. The details of your registration must match exactly with those on the ID you are bringing to the test place. If the details don’t match, you will not take the test, and your test fee will not be refunded.  


Acceptable ID For SAT Test in Nigeria

Test takers in Nigeria will need an international passport as an identifying document upon their arrival at the test centre. 

Unacceptable ID Documents For SAT Test

These documents are not acceptable as primary or supplemental ID under any condition:

  1. International driver’s license
  2. Draft classification card
  3. International student ID
  4. Credit/debit card of any sort
  5. Notary-prepared letter or document
  6. Birth certificate
  7. Social Security card
  8. Employee ID card
  9. Any temporary ID card
  10. Diplomatic, consulate or embassy ID card


Note: If your ID document isn’t written in English language and the test centre administrator can’t read it, you will most likely be unable to take the test, and your test fee won’t be refunded. 

SAT Test Takers 15 Years old or Younger

The SAT test is for high school students so the only acceptable form of identification is a valid international passport with your full name, photograph, and clear signature. There are no exceptions to this policy regardless of your age.

SAT Test Duration

The SAT test spans three hours which excludes the essay as it has recently been cancelled; the check-in process takes 30 minutes. So, you should expect to spend 3 ½ hours and are encouraged to plan your test day appropriately. You should not fix any other serious engagement for the day.


What To Bring To Your SAT Test Centre

When your online registration is completed, you’ll get a confirmation email with the test date, start time and test centre address. Please print the email confirmation for your registration. You will take the printed email confirmation and your unexpired international passport to the test centre.

How To Confirm SAT Registration Status

You can confirm your registration status by logging in to your college board account with your login details. If you don’t know your login details, simply ask for it from us or the agent that registered you for the exam.

Also, plan to check the status of your registration the day before your test to ensure that none of the registration details has changed (for instance, a different start time or venue than initially scheduled).
