Some incredibly handy tools, too, such as the Free Transform tool, are exclusive to Photoshop.

Photoshop has a powerful selection tool that lets you crop, mirror, apply filters, and more. It also works well for editing photos with the photo enhancement tools and the features for converting files from one format to another.

Using Photoshop

Photoshop runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It uses a standard look and feel with its own fonts, colors, and interface. However, the menus and tools are somewhat limited compared to other popular graphic editing programs, such as Adobe Illustrator. When using Photoshop, you can see the difference between the two programs by the absence of the Content panel.

Photoshop features a two-pane workspace. The left side shows the layer palette, which enables you to create new images, add various effects, and more. On the right side, the Open and Save panels have tabs for customizing and manipulating your image.

However, Photoshop doesn’t always have the most intuitive interface and often requires a bit of a learning curve to use. There are various workflow-type tools you’ll discover as you use Photoshop. But at the same time, these tools are necessary because you can’t control the program without them.

See the sidebar “Understanding the Photoshop interface” for an overview of features in Photoshop.

Applying and removing filters

Filters enable you to create visual effects such as posters, woodcuts, posters, and halftone prints. You can use Photoshop filters only in the Layers panel, not in the Open/Save or Workflow Panels.

Filters are available for a number of different purposes. The purpose determines which tab the filter appears in. On the Layers panel, you can access all seven tabs, as shown in Figure 4-1, but you can use only four tabs in the Workflow panel.

Most filters are organized into numerous categories, such as the Classify tools discussed in the following sections.

Photoshop is used to edit and manipulate digital photographs and other images. Photographs can be edited to change the effects they’ve had on the original photo and to adjust the colors, contrast, sharpness, brightness, and many other features of the image.

Photoshop is also used to create new images. Photoshop is commonly used for making websites and logos for businesses and non-profits, or to create graphics for e-cards, letters, advertisements, flyers, stamps and social media or other pieces of promotional art.

Photoshop is also used to edit other images. Use Photoshop to edit photos of your newborn, senior, or model babies. You can touch up pre-existing photos by sharpening or softening the image using the sharpen tool or by adjusting the appearance of color balance using the curves tool.

Photoshop is used for portrait, landscape, and macro photography, and also for graphic and web design. It’s used to edit and create memes, and to edit and create custom emoticons.

Photoshop is also used to edit and create images for social media. From Facebook to Instagram to Twitter, you can use Photoshop to brighten, sharpen, flatten, and blend images on social media sites and Facebook pages.

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editing tool that is used to create illustrations and logos.

Photoshop Elements is designed to give you the best of both worlds: easy to use, but also powerful enough to let you really work with your images.

Adobe Lightroom is a free, Adobe-branded professional image management and editing tool. It provides an organizer and easy-to-use tools for people who want to manage and edit digital images. It is the only image software to natively allow you to make adjustments to the color balance of photos, including the ability to make dramatic, digital, “white balance,” and fog adjustments. Lightroom includes several features that allow you to sort photos, such as “Smart albums,” and it also offers tools for working with images such as panoramic stitching and creative layouts.

When you receive your digital camera, it comes with many options to enhance your photos.

Some of the most common ones are as follows:

Focusing: To achieve correct focus, the camera needs to measure the distance between the object being photographed and the camera. Most people can get away with less than 1.0″ in front of the camera, but for portrait or action shots it is a good idea to move closer to the subject. If the subject is less than 4 ft. (1.2 m) in front of the camera, you should use a lens with an adjustable focusing system. The “Focus mode” can be adjusted in the menu settings.

Flash: Some cameras can have a flash that is turned on when you press the button on the side of the camera or when you turn the light switch on. However, they tend to take a picture that is too dark because the flash cannot be used for the entire exposure. The light of the flash fades quickly, so you don’t get the optimum exposure. If you take pictures in dim light, the flash will help to brighten up the photo.

Close-up: A close-up is when you zoom into the image so that you see details that you can’t see when the camera is on normal setting. This is usually done to get a good shot of your children, family, or pets. Some cameras have a focus-stacked and then a magnification button. You can use the button to enlarge the image.

Zoom: The zoom function lets you get closer to the subject. It allows you to focus at different distances. It is usually set

Unable to use secondary set with map v2 in

I’m trying to create a secondary set of icons for an overlay by following the documentation here ( The problem I’m having is, I’m not able to save the map overlay to the map.
I have a map overlay initialized as follows:
GroundOverlay areaMarker=GroundOverlayOptions.builder().position(position).build();

Then, I try to set a secondary set of icons:
MapItemizedOverlay mapItemizedOverlay=new MapItemizedOverlay(
mMap, mMap.getUiSettings().getIcon(BaseActivity.this, R.drawable.ic_launcher),
null, overlayOpenedListener);

The overlay should now look like this:

However, when I open the app and look at the map, the icon is gone:

I’ve tried to create both maps programmatically and I’m getting the same result in both cases. How can I save the secondary set of icons in the map?

Turns out that MapItemizedOverlay was incomplete. I had to add the following to the overlay before calling setMap(map):
Marker marker=mapItemizedOverlay.getMarker(overlayPosition);
Marker markerWithSecondary=mapItemizedOverlay.getMarker(overlayPosition);
// Add secondary marker

// Set the markers
