The Artistic Type of Patterns & Pattern Duotones
The Artistic Type of Patterns are simple patterns that give a brushstroke effect. They include Linear (simple) and Radial (complex) patterns. (See Adobe Support article 1166241 for more information.)
The Gradient Tool is not actually a special type of brush. It just allows you to select a new, customized gradient as a “brush” or pattern.
Duotones are simple patterns that can be created from two shades or colors. They are then used like an ordinary brush. You can set various effects, including opacity, hue, saturation and lightness.
The Patterns Collection. On the Tools menu, click the Pattern Collection menu item. In the drop-down menu that appears, choose the pattern you want to use for a new brush or pattern, and then click the New brush or pattern button. Your new brush or pattern will appear in the Tools palette. Alternatively, you can click the Pattern Collection button on the Tools menu, and choose a pattern there.
The Set of Basic Gradients. While you have the Gradient Tool selected, use the Gradient menu to choose the Basic Gradient set.
The Set of Basic Gradients. In addition to the Gradient Tool, you can use the Gradient tool to create Linear and Radial patterns. You can also choose from the Basic Gradients set.
The Pen Tool
The Pen Tool is used to draw lines on an image. There are two ways to use the Pen Tool: direct or indirect.
Use the Pen Tool with the Direct method. Click the Pen tool tool on the Tools menu. When it becomes active, hold down the Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) key. (The Ctrl key allows you to use the options on the Pen tool menu.) Drag the tool to draw paths in an image. The pen tool creates a Path.
Use the Pen Tool with the Indirect method. Click the Brush tool tool on the Tools menu. When it becomes active, hold down the Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) key. (The Ctrl key allows you to use the options on the Brush menu.) Click an area of the image, and the Brush tool creates a Brush. Draw paths on an image using the Brush tool. You can then create a Path using the Pen tool.

Fonts include text, symbols and decorative type. Although you can add fonts to any document, this can be done only with Photoshop’s own fonts. Photoshop comes with various fonts, and you can use them in any document.
Photoshop’s filters can help in changing the appearance of any type of image, including RAW files, JPEG files, and a variety of graphics or photo editing programs. They can be used on any document, including Photoshop’s own documents. They allow you to “untouch” the image and create a new image, or they can be used to change the color, size, blending, and opacity of the image.
Photoshop’s libraries give you access to several valuable resources, including tutorials, fonts, textures, brushes, effects, photos, and other features.
Photoshop allows you to work with videos in just about any format, including animation and 3D. It has an interface called After Effects, which allows you to create, edit, and animate video.
You can create a new shape or edit the appearance of an existing one. With the Shape tools, you can create rounded rectangles, circles, and squares and other basic shapes. The Pen tool allows you to draw freehand lines, arcs, and circles.
The Painted tool lets you use a special brush to paint any sort of pattern on any document in the open palette, just as you would paint with a paintbrush.
The Lens Blur filter uses a special effect that makes images seem like they were taken through a lens.
Photoshop has options for compressing, customizing, and saving files, and it has several built-in resources to help you work with images in any format.
