Structure and Timing of The GRE Test
The GRE test is composed of three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. The table below clearly shows the question types, time and grades.
The overall time for the GRE Test is about three hours and 45 minutes. There are six sections with a 10-minute break following the third section.

Minimum time required for GRE preparation
You will need to prepare for at least one month or three weeks. However, the stipulated time depends entirely on factors such as your usage of English language in daily conversation, length of prior training, etc. So you may require more or less time to prepare.
Acceptability of GRE For Admission Into Schools Abroad
The GRE test is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam that is required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA) abroad.
It has a clear advantage as universities and colleges abroad use your GRE score to measure how ready you are to succeed in your choice program of study. This is the reason GRE is accepted in over 11,000 universities and different establishments in more than 150 countries. The total obtainable score for GRE is 340. The GRE test is composed of three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Analytical Writing. The highest score for each section is 170, and lowest score is 130.

The GRE test is administered throughout the entire year at few approved test centres across Nigeria, giving you little options. However timing is important, as seats get filled up quickly. So students are urged to register early to get their desired test dates and location.

Rescheduling GRE Test Registration in Nigeria
You can reschedule your GRE registration at least 4 days before your test date. For example, if your test is on Saturday, you must reschedule by Tuesday.

Identification (ID) Requirements for the GRE Test
When you register for your GRE test in Nigeria, you’re required to enter your ID information. The details of your registration must match exactly with those on the ID you are bringing to the test place. If the details don’t match, you will not take the test, and your test fee will not be refunded.
Acceptable ID For GRE Test in Nigeria
Test takers in Nigeria will need an international passport as an identifying document upon their arrival at the test centre.
Unacceptable ID Documents For GRE Test
These documents are not acceptable as primary or supplemental ID under any condition:
- International driver’s license
- Draft classification card
- International student ID
- Credit/debit card of any sort
- Notary-prepared letter or document
- Birth certificate
- Social Security card
- Employee ID card
- Any temporary ID card
- Diplomatic, consulate or embassy ID card
Note: If your ID document isn’t written in English language and the test centre administrator can’t read it, you will most likely be unable to take the test, and your test fee won’t be refunded.
GRE Test Takers 15 Years old or Younger
If you are 15 years old or younger when you take the test, we suggest that you are accompanied by your parents or other authorized grown-up aged 18 or more. He or she will be required to complete and sign a release form at the test venue.
Both you (the test taker) and your parent or any authorized individual, who accompanies you, needs to provide valid, acceptable ID, or you won’t take the test.
GRE Test Duration
The GRE test spans 3 hours 45 minutes for computer based and 3 hours 30 minutes for paper based test; the check-in process takes 30 minutes. So, you should expect to spend 4 hours and are encouraged to plan your test day appropriately. You should not fix any other serious engagement for the day.
What To Bring To Your GRE Test Centre
When your online registration is completed, you’ll get a confirmation email with the test date, start time and test centre address. Please print the email confirmation for your registration. You will take the printed email confirmation and your unexpired international passport to the test centre.
How To Confirm GRE Registration Status
You can confirm your registration status by login to your ets account with your login details. If you don’t know your login details, simply ask for it from us or the agent that registered you for the exam.
Also, plan to check the status of your registration the day before your test to ensure that none of the registration details has changed (for instance, a different start time or venue than initially scheduled).
