We use the scheme from Ref. . The total energy difference of the low-spin and high-spin solution was converged to only 1 meV. For all calculations we use k-points $\Gamma$-centered regular meshes with $4\times 4\times 4$ k-points in the irreducible wedge of the Brillouin zone.

For a double-counting correction of the Fermi energy shift one has to take the Coulomb interaction between the magnetic ion and the surrounding empty states into account. We performed the full treatment, as described in Ref. , of the structural optimization, the calculation of the magnetic energy, and the determination of the GGA band gap.

What’s New in the?

In the 1870s a railway was constructed, the Southern Railway (Greenock) and in the 1880s this was extended to cross the south of the parish, joining the Glasgow and South Western Railway at Howe of Fife and the Ayrshire, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway at Horseheath Junction.

From then, the whole area gradually developed, forming a more rural population and agriculture became an important industry.

In 1887, this line was extended to Stirling and in 1891 it reached the boundary of the Parish at the Lamont Bridge.

During the 20th century, the railway became important, carrying much of the farming produce and products around Ayrshire and beyond. By the end of the century, when the steam trains had been superseded, passenger services were withdrawn and the road reverted to truck.

The opening of the canal in 1802, however, meant that through travel had been possible since the days of James V, and that the railways had no longer been the only way to travel, and hence its significance declined.

During the 1930s, the increased use of the motor car and the ever-growing popularity of tourism led to a decline in the local population. The growing industrial strength of the city had led to the demolition of the village school, as well as the old village hall.

Up until the 1960s, the old Ayrshire Railway was still open, running from Ayr down the western side of the Parish to the ferry at Irvine. Finally, on the 1st of June 1960, the overhead power lines that now encircle the Parish were installed, marking the end of the old village’s railway use.

The main road through the Parish is Irvine Road, which runs north-south along the Western side of the Parish and is known as The Ayr Road, or sometimes as Old Ayr Road.

The Parish has a higher proportion of larger dwellings to the smaller, often thatched, ones typical of the earlier 17th century buildings.

There are also a number of areas where there are bunkers and pillboxes which provide evidence of their possible military use during the Second World War.

At the end of the village is Bourtreehill Bridge, with the main road crossing the River Irvine. Bourtreehill Bridge was built in 1859 by an Ayrshire bridge engineer named John Cox.

The Parish is split between A
